Schedule: Sunday, 4 week days, frequent Saturday for events and activities
Job Summary: To shepherd the church family of the First Chinese Baptist Church, Los Angeles with:

  1. Leadership that is spirit-led, effective, and conducive to a multi-generational, multi-language congregation.
  2. Ability to set theological direction and ensure sound biblical doctrine for all languages and ministries.
  3. Preaching that is expository and evangelistic.
  4. A strong spiritual and disciplined consistent walk with Christ.
  5. Cultural sensitivity and deep understanding of language and age groups to cultivate unity while allowing individual growth.
  6. Vision from God to accomplish His will for the church.
  7. Strategic planning to carry out the unified vision.

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Responsibilities 
    1. To lead the entire congregation through vision casting to inspire purpose and clarity, and through gospel-centered teaching to ensure doctrinal integrity and maintain our unity as one congregation, one church with different language and age group ministries.
    2. To lead and supervise the Pastoral Staff as follows: 
      1.  To establish a unified church vision that aligns with the mission statement of FCBCLA that can be carried out and accomplished as one church.
      2. To oversee long term strategy, planning and major initiatives (e.g. church planting, building campaigns etc.).
      3. To build healthy staff culture and team unity.
      4. To lead, mentor and evaluate the Pastoral Staff in their respective ministries to fulfill the established vision, and mission statement of FCBCLA.
      5. To be accountable for decisions on hiring, restructuring and dismissal.
      6. To oversee the Pastoral Staff in developing, interpreting, and fulfilling their responsibilities and ministries.
      7. To ensure training, evaluation of and ministry to the Pastoral Staff & Office Staff.
    3. To act as primary official church representative (Corporate President) in matters of outreach to the public, association with other Christian organizations/activities, and Southern Baptist Convention activities.
    4. Work with the Executive Council to help set policies, governance structure and guide budget priorities with big-picture financial strategy.
  2. Duties 
    1. Oversees sermon series planning.
    2. Set overall teaching direction for the church across all languages.
    3. Maintain regular office hours.
    4. Preach regularly and supervise the preaching pulpits for each worship.
    5. Oversee the teaching ministry of the church to maintain consistent teaching standards and ensure spiritual health and growth.
    6. Oversee the Pastoral Staff meetings, Prayer Meetings, and church-wide activities.
    7. Perform/Oversee annual reviews of the Pastoral Staff & Office Staff.
    8. Be available to perform pastoral duties for ordinances (Lord’s Supper and baptism), weddings, funerals, and other special activities, and for visitation, crises, urgencies and needs that arise for prayer and special attention.

      2. Works with individuals and groups as a team player.
      3. Personable, approachable, and available.
      4. Compassionate and caring for believers and non-believers.
      5. Encouraging and supportive.
      6. Sensitive to needs of a wide age span and life-stage congregation.
    2. Can share the Gospel clearly.
    3. Can teach the truth and doctrine of the Bible effectively for building up the faith of the people and equipping them to serve the Lord and others.
    4. Can lead the church effectively with organizational skills, understanding of and working with dynamics of large group organizations.
    5. Proficiency in written and verbal English is required.  Fluency in Cantonese and Mandarin is preferred.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
As a member of the pastoral staff, this position will have daily contact with the church office staff including maintenance, administrative staff members and various elected/appointed committees, as well as frequent contact with lay workers. On many occasions, members of the pastoral staff will have contact with third parties on behalf of the church. In all instances, pastoral staff members must maintain a professional and spiritual decorum in all contacts and communications (both written and oral) with all parties.  

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education: Master’s degree in Divinity or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Work Experience: 

  1. Ministerial experience in a North American congregation of 100 or more desirable.
  2. Prior experience working with different age groups is a plus.

Skills: Teaching, coaching, leading and preaching.
Certifications or Licenses: Ordination is required.

WORK CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Operate computer and standard office equipment.
  2. Must be able to drive to visit members and visitors as needed, as well as to attend various functions/events.
  3. Physically fit to perform duties normally expected of a pastor.

ACCOUNTABILITY
The senior pastor is accountable to the Executive Council and the members of First Chinese Baptist Church, Los Angeles.

Salary: $120,000 to $145,000 annually + 403(b) with employer match + medical, dental, vision + PTO

Reports to: Church Administrator
Typical Work Schedule: Typical schedule is Monday through Friday; however, evening, weekend, and extended hours are frequently required based on facility needs and church events. The position may require responding to urgent facility issues outside of scheduled work hours. The position may include after-hours response responsibilities. On-call expectations, if applicable, will be defined and administered in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws.

Job Summary: The Facilities Manager is involved in the daily operations and strategic planning for use of church facilities.
Overall responsibilities include:

  1. General facilities management in order to provide a safe, clean, and functional environment for occupants and visitors.
  2. Scheduling and performing routine checks of facilities, vehicles, and equipment to ensure safe operations, proper functioning, and compliance with applicable regulations.
  3. Oversee church master calendaring and facilities requests.
  4. Coordination of facilities use for church-wide events.
  5. Documentation of facilities policies and procedures.
  6. Budgeting, monitoring bills and contracts related to facilities and church vehicles.
  7. Communication and coordination on facility projects.
  8. Supervision of professional cleaning services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Facilities
    1. Assess maintenance needs regularly.
      1. Schedule routine maintenance (e.g., carpet cleaning, pest control, gardening, etc…).
      2. Schedule inspections of buildings, building systems (e.g., HVAC, fire detectors and extinguishers, emergency lights, elevators, etc…).
      3. Develop and manage the facility work order system including maintenance requests submitted by the congregation and church staff.
      4. Oversee activities conducted on-site by outside repair personnel and contractors.
      5. Update maintenance logs.
    2. Be familiar with building systems, utilities and communications infrastructure including HVAC, lights, security, keys, elevators and alarms; ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
    3. Recommend and coordinate execution of projects for improvement, maintenance, and repair.
    4. Draft specifications for contracted work, gain approval for proposal, obtain bids, assist with the selection, oversee performance and authorize payments after assuring that services are performed in a satisfactory manner.
    5. Perform after-life benchmarking which includes regular testing and inspection of systems and equipment, end of warranty review, review of maintenance and operations.
    6. Assist with minor maintenance repairs.
    7. Be primary or back-up contact for various alarm systems (e.g., security, fire, etc…).
    8. Develop clear and simple written instructions for routine usage and maintenance of church facilities.
    9. Provide training for appropriate use and maintenance of facilities to staff, volunteers, and congregants.
  2. Church Vehicles
    1. Oversee maintenance, appearance, and safe operating condition of church vehicles.
      1. Ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
      2. Keep maintenance record and drivers’ log for each vehicle.
      3. Oversee and assist Class B drivers in obtaining their drug tests and physical exam.
      4. Maintain DMV registrations.
      5. Maintain accurate records of all repair and maintenance work.
  3. Custodial and Office Equipment
    1. Order supplies for custodial and repair work.
    2. Develop policies and procedures to maintain custodial and office equipment.
    3. Manage equipment inventory for custodial and repair work.
  4. Managerial Responsibilities
    1. Supervise professional cleaning services.
      1. Oversee the daily work and schedule.
      2. Coordinate the daily opening and closing schedule of church facilities.
      3. Coordinate set-up and take-down work for regular church functions and special events.
      4. Develop checklists and appropriate written instructions.
      5. Verify the quality of work and evaluate performance.
    2. Distribute work efficiently and appropriately among staff, contractors, and volunteers.
    3. Maintain accurate records.
      1. Maintain licenses and certificates.
      2. Maintain paperwork on service contracts and warranties.
      3. Keep files on safety-related information (e.g., dangerous equipment, toxins, etc…).
      4. Provide accurate records of work performed and bills paid.
    4. Keep building and building diagrams, inventory of furniture and building-related items, system manuals, operational manuals.
    5. Keep record of alterations, renovations, major repair of building systems.
    6. Keep record of building materials and standardize the model, style, color if possible.
    7. Attend facilities-related meetings (e.g., Building Committee, security-related groups, etc…) regarding policies, projects, and events.
    8. Establish annual repair and maintenance schedule.
    9. Review various bills for utilities and building services.
    10. Responsible for developing staff training program including generation of operation and procedure manuals, and protocols.
    11. Monitor service agreements to ensure compliance with contractual obligations.

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, technical training, and relevant experience in facilities management, property management, or building operations. Relevant hands-on experience in facilities maintenance, vendor coordination, and building systems is strongly preferred.

Work Experience:

  1. Supervisory experience.
  2. Some years of facilities management highly desirable.

Skills:

  1. Minor repairs.
  2. Working knowledge of building systems, communication systems, personal computers, and computer networks.
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  4. Works well with a wide variety of personalities.
  5. Proficient with Microsoft Office; able to learn various software applications especially resource scheduling programs.
  6. Language skills: Strong verbal and written English required; ability to converse in Cantonese and Mandarin a plus.
  7. Must be able to travel between facilities and off-site locations as needed in performance of job duties

  1. Must be a committed Christian who agrees with and supports the church’s statement of faith and mission.
  2. Actively participates in a Christian community and demonstrates conduct consistent with the church’s values.
  3. Able to maintain strict confidentiality.

  6. Demonstrates sound work ethic and a “customer service” orientation.

WORK CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Due to the nature and environment of the work place, a high moral, ethical, and spiritual value is of necessity. Working well as a team and with guests and being flexible with the work load and work schedule is also very necessary.
  2. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds consistently with heavier weight necessary at times. Judgment is expected to be exercised when lifting heavy objects by engaging help or using equipment to assist.

Salary: $60,000 to $80,000 annually (This is a non-exempt position. Employee must accurately record all hours worked, including time spent responding to calls, alarms, or facility issues outside of scheduled work hours. All time worked will be compensated in accordance with applicable federal and California law, including overtime where applicable. Overtime should be approved in advance; however, all hours worked must be reported and will be paid. Travel time, after-hours responses, and work performed outside of regular working hours will be compensated in accordance with applicable law. Reasonable accommodations will be provided in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and applicable state law.)
