Employment Status and Hours: Exempt; Regular Full-time
Reports to: Senior Pastor
Typical Work Schedule: Sunday, 4 week days, and frequent Saturday events and activities. Maintain regular working hours; compliant with church policies and procedures.
Job Summary: Works under the direction of the Senior Pastor to lead and supervise assigned staff members of English ministries to carry out the vision of the church through functions such as worship, prayer, Equipping classes (formerly Sunday School), visitation, fellowship and life groups, outreach, discipleship, workshops, and other ministry programs. Also engaged in shepherding and caring for primarily (but not limited to) one English adult age group.
Delegated Authority: Lead and oversee the English ministries and the English pastoral staff with the support of lay workers.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise and shepherd the assigned staff members to fulfill the established vision/values of the church; follow the process described in the Supervision Guidelines, including annual and ongoing assessment of their ministry effectiveness and achieving ministry goals and objectives.
- Lead and coordinate assigned staff members and their ministries. Assign or re-assign their functions and responsibilities to maintain or increase ministry effectiveness.
- Support the Senior Pastor as a member of the Senior Pastoral Team as follows, but not limited to: (1) establishing unity through vision/values of the church; (2) making major ministry decisions; (3) providing direction and coordination for all ministries in all age and language groups.
- Serve as Staff Representative in the Executive Council (EC); fulfill duties described in the Organization Manual and those specified for EC pastors in the Constitution and Bylaws.
- Engaged in shepherding and caring specifically for English ministry, and generally for all of First Chinese Baptist Church, Los Angeles including pastoral staff.
- Preach in worship services as assigned by the Senior Pastor.
- Develop, equip, and train lay workers in discipleship, prayer, Bible study, and personal evangelism.
- Lead and coordinate outreach and evangelistic efforts including but not limited to, fellowship life group meetings, visitations and evangelistic meetings.
- Teach and lead the congregation to love God, serve God and one another with deeper faith in His Word, trust in God, and increase in Christ-likeness.
- Lead and train assigned staff members and ministry team leaders in planning and executing ministry activities, projects and programs.
- Be available as needs arise, for prayer, personal counseling, visitation, crises, etc.
- Support and attend Executive Council, pastoral staff, deacons’, members’, and prayer meetings.
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by the Senior Pastor.
Working Relationships
As a member of the pastoral staff this position will have daily contact with the church office staff including maintenance, administrative staff members and various elected/appointed committees, as well as frequent contact with lay workers. On many occasions, members of the pastoral staff will have contact with third parties on behalf of the church. In all instances, pastoral staff members must maintain a professional and spiritual decorum in all contacts and communications (both written and oral) with all parties.
Minimal Qualifications and Requirements
Education:
Master’s degree in Divinity or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Work Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of full time ministerial experience in a North American congregation with 100 or more is desirable.
- Two years experience working in a supervisory role is a plus.
Skills and Requirements:
Teaching, coaching, leading and preaching.
Language Skills: Proficiency in written and verbal English a must.
Certifications or Licenses:
Ordination is required.

- Operate computer and standard office equipment.
- Must be able to drive to visit members and visitors as needed, as well as to attend various functions/events.
- Physically fit to perform duties normally expected of a pastor.

Director of Children's Ministry
Employment Status and Hours: Professional Exemption (FSLA), Administrative Exemption (California); Full-time
Reports to: English Lead Pastor
Typical Work Schedule: Sundays, 4 weekdays, and frequent Saturday events and activities. Maintain regular working hours; compliant with church policies and procedures.
Job Summary: Director of Children’s Ministry will lead and oversee the Children’s Ministry (birth to grade 5) within the scope of the overall church vision as set forth by the Senior Pastoral Team. The director will advance the Children’s Ministry by leveraging knowledge and experience in administration, education, and childhood development. With the collaborative efforts of the volunteers, parents, and the pastoral staff, the director oversees effective ministry for the spiritual growth of the children.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Create and communicate a clear vision, strategy, and development for all children’s ministries based on FCBCLA’s mission and vision
- Create and foster a healthy ministry environment among volunteer workers and parents
- Communicate with ministry volunteers and parents
- Identify and develop gifted leaders for expansion of ministry and future roles
- Oversee all aspects of the ministry with the support of the Children’s Ministry team
- Recruit, screen, train, and supervise ministry leaders and other volunteers
- Create and effectively manage a budget that aligns with mission/vision
- Ensure the safety and security of our children during church activities and events by implementing all the appropriate policies and procedures
- Provide correction to children when necessary, and resolve any conflicts between volunteers
- Work with others to create and/or oversee programming such as Children’s Worship, Sunday School, fellowship, educational/equipping events, camp, Vacation Bible School, local outreach, and missions
- Partner with parents in the spiritual development of their children

Children's Lead Instructor
Employment Status and Hours: Professional Non-Exemption (FSLA), Administrative Non-Exemption (California); Part Time 20-25/wk
Reports to: Director of Children’s Ministry
Typical Work Schedule: 20-25 hours a week, including Sundays and occasionally Saturday events and activities.
Job Summary: The Children’s Lead Instructor will work under the Director of Children’s Ministry to plan and deliver Sunday worship messages, develop curriculum, develop and train staff in teaching methods, teach in Sunday Schools, and to be knowledgeable in childhood development. S/He will also partner with other groups (e.g., camp, family ministries, etc.) to provide or review appropriate instructional materials as requested.
Delegated Authority: Children’s Ministry Instructional Staff
Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach and coordinate Bible messages/lessons in Worship, Sunday School or other activities, promoting scripture memorization, prayer, and personal Bible reading
- Be responsible to select, develop and evaluate all children ministry curriculum and programs
- In partnership with the Director of Children’s Ministry, advance a holistic ministry program
- Provide seminars to workers and parents on pedagogy and child development
- Be responsible for training of teaching staff and their development, assessing areas of strength and development
- Create and foster a healthy spiritual ministry environment among volunteer workers and parents
- Communicate regularly with parents and provide tools they need for spiritual leadership
- Identify and develop gifted speakers/teachers for expansion of ministry and future roles
- Working with the youth pastor, prepare children to transition into youth ministry well
- Seek the spiritual well-being of children and volunteers
- Be available as needs arise for prayer, crises, and other urgencies involving children
- Provide counseling to children and families, visiting as needed

- Participate in workshops, seminars, and conferences as needed
